Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays

Our office is proud to be equipped with the latest in digital X-ray technology. We installed Dexis platinum digital X-ray sensors in early 2011.

Digital X-rays allow for a decrease of up to 75% in radiation exposure on each digital X-ray compared to traditional film X-rays.

Other benefits include:

  • Instantaneous loading of the image on to the computer for immediate analysis and diagnosis
  • Decrease in environmental waste by elimination of film chemical processing solutions
  • Shorter appointments

Why you need to have X-rays at check ups:

Many diseases of the teeth and surrounding structures cannot be viewed without X-rays, they can help reveal:

  • Early detection of small areas of decay
  • Infections in the bone
  • Periodontal (gum) disease, which has been linked to heart disease, premature labor, diabetes
    abscesses and cysts
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Some types of tumors

How much radiation am I really getting with digital dental X-rays?

The Washington State Department states that the maximum safe occupational whole body exposure is 5000 mRem (this means you would need 15,000 digital x rays to reach this limit).

A single digital X-ray emits: 0.30 mRem
Four digital bitewings (checkup X-rays): 1.2 mRem
Digital full mouth series: 6.0 mRem
